MIS Research in the Classroom
Yi Chen: I have a background in computer science and now I’m a professor in the School of Management. This unique experience well positions me to do research of big data analysis in business applications.
One of my research projects is to optimize business processes for problem solving and decision making and to better understand organizational behavior for improving process efficiency. This project is funded by NSF, National Science Foundation, and the IBM Faculty Award.
I integrated research findings into courses. I would like to introduce new concepts, examples, case studies, paper readings, and projects into the curriculum about the recent technology advances. For example, where the data comes from is a critical concept in art and science. I would like to introduce it into business classes because it becomes a critical challenge for big data analytics where we needed to integrate and analyze data from many different sources. Besides classrooms students may also have opportunities to participate in research projects.
